Field Hockey

This year’s field hockey team has done it again. The girls celebrated another great season with another Western Mass title. This was number ten for the highly successful program. This year the team based their success upon the motto “Control the ball, control the game!” The girls created a strong sense of unity this year with many team dinners and bonding experiences. The girls brought this tenacity and unity with them when they went to tournament to take on whatever lay in their path.
This year the team celebrated a 4 – 1 win over South Hadley to win the Western Mass Title. It was a nasty rainy day and the air was cold. “The girls pulled together and got the job done,” says Chris Sulda. He was right, because the team was able to control the ball for most of the game and just as their motto says, they controlled the game. This year’s team was led by six seniors, a devastating blow to any team that they had to face. These six seniors could pick apart any team that they faced. However their presence will be missed next year. With all six seniors being key starters, many new and upcoming players will have to step up to fill the shoes of the graduates.
Overall the year was very successful and productive with capturing the league title and ending with a 19-3 record. The team always gave the fans something to cheer about. This year has been a wonderful year, but the loss of the seniors will really be felt hard. They provided a strong leadership base and controlled the field. This year’s team is deserving of much praise and much respect. Congratulations girls on another great year!
