Before the season’s start, there seemed to be a fair amount of apprehension about the potential quality of the Smith Academy girl’s soccer team, and for good reason too.  An extremely young team, more than half of the roster was comprised of players still in their Freshman year or earlier.  However, those reserves soon melted away upon the inception of the season, when the team proved that, against all odds, they could still win.  The team ended up with a successful regular season, and became league champions for the second consecutive year.

Unfortunately, the team lost their first game in tournament against Lee, despite possessing the first seed.  Many have speculated about the cause of this loss, with the idea of a severe disparity in the quality of leagues that both team played in leading to Smith’s defeat being the most prominent.  Though exactly how much can said for such retrospective conjecture is up to the reader.

Even with the somewhat disappointing postseason loss, the team’s morale seems to be relatively high, with the general sentiment being quite positive.  Most of the graduating seniors seem to be proud of the team for doing so well and not overly disheartened by the loss in tournament, and the returning players are excited for next season.
