2/5/21 Update

2/5/21

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday from Hatfield Elementary School,

To start with, I am pleased to announce two new members of the HES school community who will be joining us. Laurie Kratzer will be coming aboard as our Speech Language Pathologist Assistant and support paraprofessional. We are happy to have her on the team and to be able to increase our SLP intervention services. Lynda Gigliotti will be joining us for the remainder of the year to serve as our K-3 special educator. Ms. Gigliotti comes with years of experience teaching special education in many districts, including a stint at HES as a long term substitute a couple of years ago. We are fortunate to have these two highly qualified and enthusiastic folks joining our team.

Next, a traffic update. Even before the snow, it was tight when it came to cars passing each other by the 4th-6th grade entrance (by the playground). Unfortunately, with the snow, cars are too close to both pass and to allow our kids to get in and out of cars. At this point, we are reducing that to one lane to ensure safety. We can have up to three cars unloading at a time, and people who have dropped off or picked up from 1st-3rd grade can continue through the way they currently do, but will not be able to pass cars dropping off or picking up 4th-6th grade students.

As you likely know, we are exploring ways to increase our in-person learning time. Currently, we are looking at ways to bring grades 1-3 back  to full in-person learning in a way that still maintains the margins of safety which have proven effective in keeping Covid-19 out of our school. In order to make this shift as smooth as possible, and avoid multiple disruptions across grade levels, we are asking parents of students in grades 1-3 to commit to a learning model through the end of April Vacation (4/26/21). This will allow us to plan with firm numbers and know what shifts need to be made to learning spaces. Parents of first through third grade students, please complete this survey. Any changes to learning model will be communicated as they are made. To be clear, next week we are planning to continue with our current, hybrid model.
